SIDE INTERESTS

My name is Julio (rear center). I am a research scientist with the Department of Rheumatology at the University of Texas Medical School (which is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston). I have dedicated my professional career to the discovery of the "how" & "why" individuals develop certain autoimmune diseases. After 20 years of toiling in the trenches of lab benchwork, our team is close to bridging the gap of our findings with meaningful patient treatments.

One of my passions is home building. I very much enjoy anything that has to do with construction. Over the years, I have been able to acquire and renovate properties around the Texas Medical Center. My wife and I rent out these properties as corporate housing to anyone visiting this area of Houston. The Texas Medical Center in Houston is quite amazing, it is the largest medical center in the world and employs over 100,000 people! If you ever have reason to visit the TMC and need a place to say, feel free to gives us a shout out - www.facebook.com/medcondo

HOBBIES

Why am I selling my books?

Why am I selling my books?

Why, collecting comic books of course! Between my work in the lab and managing our rental properties (and enjoying life with my wife and 7 yr old son), it does not leave much room for finding rare books. But I give it a go at it anyway. I have come to realize I am a relative newbie at the hobby. I have developed friendships with fellow collectors who have been dealing in comic books for decades, and I have been having fun with it for "only" about 12 years or so. I have always enjoyed comic books, and would buy them at my local comic shop in middle school, and always imagined how great it would be to buy that dime comic in the showcase (which felt so out of reach for a 13 yr. old). I never would have thought that I would delve into it so deeply as an adult, but the thrill of finally landing that "gotta have" book is addictive.

Why am I selling my books?

I will not sell all my books, but I find it necessary to sell off a solid amount. I will hang onto my favorites, and I will continue to try to acquire those books that I highly covet. I am currently collecting comics with iconic precode horror and crime covers, and hopefully I can continue having fun doing that for the foreseeable future ......

Here we go, this opened the floodgates to selling books.

This was several years ago at a Houston con. I wasn't expecting to sell these, I just wanted to show them to a fellow hobbyist. As it turns out, these were books that my friend very much wanted for his collection. We worked out a deal, and they were gone. These were the first books I had sold out of my personal collection, and I had to take a final parting picture with them.

Now here is a motley crew...my little man is the Wolverine

...and then the FLASH! Quick Change

Nice pick ups on the Vintage toys son, looks like an old school THING.

DR. DOOM meets Little IRON MAN

Comic Cons are always a family affair, mom has as good a time as anybody!

Needless to say, there is no shortage of HERO costumes at our house

Gotta get that FRANKIE costume just right, you never know who you might run into...

....Like OBI-WAN!!

And OBI-WAN again!

That is a killer Bobba Fett

Now Grandma wants in on the action!

Yes son, that is a really tall and really scary scarecrow.  You might be outsized on this one batman!

Stay away from this one son, nothing but trouble!

Matching masks, pretty neat!

Really cool hawkgirl.  It brought back memories of that short mini-series in the 80s (which I think I still have in a box somewhere)

Yeah son, I have no idea what that thingamajig is on her head either

I don't blame you for keeping your distance son, that's some scary dude. But your a good sport and stood next to him anyhow. I am sure being the GREEN LANTERN gives you a little boost in bravery

Now this looks like a fun group!

Hate to burst your bubble son, but that dagger might not be of much help to you against that green guy, even though your a ninja and all.

HULK SMASH!

SUPER MINION!

That guy has a serious IRON MAN suit

I think that is ULTRON

Its a good thing for all those Marvel movies, it keeps me informed about the comic world universe post atomic age.

DARTH VADER stirs every child's imagination. Although my son does not know STAR WARS too well, he is a big Darth Vader fan.

Awesome Storm Trooper

...and that was an impressive land speeder (background) at the houston show

This booth had sometop notch WOLVERINE claws

FOR MY SON, THIS IS THE REASON WHY WE GO TO COMIC CONVENTIONS, TO SHOP FOR TOYS

Here is the real reason, so I can talk and shop comics!
